Skill training workshops are short term educational groups that help you learn relationship concepts, strategies and skills. Some workshops apply to nearly any kind of relationship, while others are specific to certain issues and types of relationships. What Is The Goal of Skill Training?

Relationship education and skill training programs are designed to teach the knowledge, attitudes, and skills we all need in order to have happy, healthy relationships. These are the building blocks for developing relationship intelligence. It takes a combination of knowledge, skills, disciplined behavior, positive attitudes, good values, and solid decision-making to fulfill our needs for love and connection. You can develop these life skills.

What Are the Advantages of Skill Training?

Education and skill training are the simplest, cheapest, and most efficient way to help people develop relationship intelligence. Education and skill training can not only help people in troubled relationships, they can prevent many relationship problems. You don’t need to go any farther than your own memory to know you had to learn many relationship lessons the hard way. Because adults and children in healthy relationships are known to have better physical and mental health, developing relationship intelligence is one of the most important things we can do to improve health and wellness across the board.

What Do Skill Training Workshops Involve?

Skill training workshops are lively, interactive, practical, and fun ways to learn important skills. You learn from instructors and other participants, and quickly find out you are not alone. Group learning helps eliminate the sense of isolation we all feel at times. A variety of methods are used: presentations, modeling, video clips, discussion, handouts, practice exercises, short written responses, coaching, online reading, and home practice. Workshops vary in length from 4 to 10 sessions. Cost varies according to the length of the workshop, number of participants, where it is conducted, and who is leading it. Fees are discussed when you Contact Us.

Who Can Attend?

Some workshops are designed to address general relationship needs and others address specific issues. For example, parenting workshops are designed for married couples, single parents, step-parents, adoptive parents, foster parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, or parents of adult children. Children do not attend. On the other hand, communication skill training may be helpful for singles, co-workers, couples, families, and organizations. Participants and/or host organizations are provided detailed information, orientation, a free admission session, and help deciding if a particular workshop meets their needs. Couples, individuals, and families who are in counseling can benefit from skill training workshops, which is done in full collaboration with your counselor. This combination can speed up counseling, and reduce the cost and number of sessions.

Who Conducts the Workshops?

Workshops are conducted either by certified instructors, or someone in training to become an instructor. Our training process requires instructors to go through the program first, and then apply to become an instructor in training. All trainees must successfully co-lead the program under the supervision of a certified instructor before they may teach it alone. Advanced trainees may also co-lead with another trainee. Workshop fees vary according to the instructor’s experience, certification, and level of expertise.

What if We Need Counseling too?

We provide integrated counseling and education services that are available in bundled packages to give you the lowest rates possible. Couple and family counseling usually include relationship education, but you pay far more for a counselor to tutor you privately than you would taking a workshop. More than that, there are many advantages to small group education. The content is organized systematically and presented with teaching methods that are known to work. Many supplemental materials (workbooks, handouts, video clips, exercises, online resources, etc.) are made available to help you. You learn from others who are wrestling with the same issues, while still getting personal help and feedback. Workshops are done in a safe, confidential environment when you are not in the midst of stressful issues. Workshops speed up the counseling process, move you through painful issues more quickly, and reduce the cost and number of counseling sessions. You get the best of both worlds in the most efficient way possible.

Can I Become a Workshop Leader?

We not only offer workshops to the public, we train qualified people to become relationship educators. People interested in becoming an educator may be invited by us, nominated by a host organization, or apply in person. The first step is to take the workshop(s) and demonstrate competency. The second step is to complete a period of training, supervision, and internship. We also work with organizations to train employees and volunteers to become relationship educators.
